The mountains have a way of dwarfing me, making me aware of the limits of my person compared to the vastness of the mountains. Their majesty takes my breath away and brings me to a deeper recognition of God's hand in creation.
I moved from the fields of East Texas to the Mountains of New Mexico this week, and I am humbled by the gift the Lord gave to me. I spent the summer applying, interviewing, and praying for the Lord to open a door for employment. I asked, "Lord, open a door, and I will walk through it." With each closed door, I easily forgot His faithfulness. I quickly doubted His provision, and my fears masked the truth of God's plan for my life. The second to last week of summer, God opened a door, and I was offered a position to serve an Organization called Glorieta Camps. On the return trip from my interview, I was filled with an unexplainable giddiness as I laughed at how the Lord granted me a job opportunity when I least expected. I confessed the depths of my doubt and walked in the confidence of His purpose.
My prayer in this season is Philippians 4:4-5, may I rejoice in the Lord always (even in the unknown) and may my gentleness be evident to all the Lord is near (closely working in my heart). May I display the reality of the power of the Spirit in and through me, so others may know the Lord's nearness to me. May my name become less and His name become greater. Just as the mountains make me feel so small, may God's Spirit continue to leave me in a state of awe, surrendering to His will. One of my favorite sayings reads,
The mountains are calling and I must go...now I can say, by the hand of God, the mountains are calling and this is home.
